Special Needs Dog Adopted by Loving Family
Coyote’s Story
Coyote is a two-year old Spitz dog who was injured by a car and languished on the side of the road for more than a week. He was paralyzed and left with a portion of one of his rear legs severed off in the grisly accident.
During a Humanitourism trip to Mexico in March 2018, a good samaritan found Coyote and took him to see our veterinarian at the shelter in Manzanillo. He was in very rough shape, struggling to hang on and had developed an infection as well. Other animal clinics would have euthanized him, but our veterinarian fought to save him and to restore his mangled leg. In the end, the leg could not be saved, but Coyote survived, and under loving care, he began to recover.
A New Beginning After Surviving a Near-Fatal Accident
In spite of his injury, Coyote was able to get around on his own on smooth surfaces and has some movement in his remaining rear leg. A bouncy, lively boy and full of life, he got along well with other dogs. Because he was homeless and had been living in a kennel at the vet clinic for months, we knew Coyote needed someone special who can take care of him in a loving home.
At the end of the March, we found a family to adopt Coyote. He now lives a happy, active life with wonderful people who are willing to provide him with some adaptive help to improve his quality of life. He can now move fast with support for his back end. Friendly, affectionate and playful, Coyote is enjoying his new life and bringing much joy to his new family.
