Dog with Paralyzed Back Finds a New Home
Ellie’s Story
Little Ellie was hit by a car in Mexico and left paralyzed in her rear legs. She dragged herself around for over two weeks before someone helped her. The tops of her feet and legs suffered so much abrasion that the small bones in her feet were scraped off.
A kind woman finally rescued her and took her in, cleaned her wounds and wrapped them. She took her to two veterinarians who suggested that Ellie be euthanized.
During our tour to Mexico in March 2018, we came across Ellie and took her to see Dr. Gaby (Humanitourism veterinarian) who treated her, dressed her wounds and kept her under close observation. Her wounds began to heal; and although her back legs were paralyzed, she was able to get around on her own. She continued to recover and grew stronger.
Recovery from Severe Wounds Gives Ellie A Second Chance
Sweet and affectionate, Ellie is a small Whippet/Italian Greyhound Mix female dog. We saw how she loved interacting with people and got along well with other dogs. A vibrant and lively dog that was full of life, Ellie needed us to help her find a loving home and save her.
Through our Humantourism network, we secured a new home for Ellie and she was adopted by a family in the U.S. With the medical care and attention she is now receiving, her quality of life has greatly improved.
